I finished the sewing just in the nick of time, the presents were wrapped and unwrapped, dad's super spicy bloody marys were enjoyed, the popovers popped, and the children were fast asleep in their beds by 7pm.

I was really excited this Christmas because I made at least one gift for each member of my family.
There was...

T's Tent

M's Bulletin Board

Mom's Alabama Stitch Book Tablecloth

Chris's PJ Pants

dad's key/wallet/glasses/phone holder, chris got one too! They are both always losing their stuff!

and I got an adjustable dress form so I can keep creating!
I must say it was so much fun to watch my family enjoy the gifts that I had so lovingly created.

Holiday Vacation Craft...to keep them busy!

Well it is official, my children are at home for two weeks. Once you become a parent, with school age children, you develop a love/hate relationship with school vacations and snow days (at least I have)!
I have been somewhat obsessed with the Alabama Stitch book since I purchased it over the summer. I made myself a skirt and am currently working on a christmas present.  I did use the techniques from the book to create a great project for M.  First I asked her to draw me a picture  and I used it to create a stencil.  I had her paint her picture onto the tee shirt....

I then let it dry and reverse appliquéd and appliquéd the details of her picture in. It is now one of her favorites!

Kids Clothes

Little girls are so fun to dress and they are even more fun to sew for! Sometimes I feel guilty because I never make my son anything.  In 2010, I vow to change that, and make T some mommy made clothes.
Last spring I found the cutest pattern company oliver+s, I think at this point I own almost all the patterns that they make, and over the holidays I will be making many more of their creations for M and T.  Here are the 2 that I have made so far... one was for M's first day of school and the other is for her holiday concert on Friday! I found this beautiful striped swiss cotton at Fabric corner in Arlington.
The Oliver+s patterns are so simple to use and the directions are easy to follow. I made both these dresses, start to finish, in under a day.
Tomorrow, I am going to work on adding sleeves to the birthday party dress and making it in a beautiful light blue silk, from Fabric Corner in Arlington, I found for M's Christmas dress.  I'll let you know how it works out!  I'll also update with pictures of M in the playdate dress.  Happy holidays!

    About Vallery...

I live outside of Boston with my husband, two children, and dog. For the past 8 years I have been working with clients to help them make their home dreams a reality. From helping to build homes from the ground up to helping round out already finished spaces, I listen to my clinets and let their vision guide our process. I have always been a creative person planning spaces and working to make them function better. After completing the Residential Interiors program at Boston Architectural College I learned how to combine my love for funcion and flow with my eye for color, scale, and balance. As a graduate of New York University's Stern School of Business, I understand project planning and budget management. My experience working with clients, contractors, and architects helps to coordinate and streamline the home building and renovation process, helping my clients to have the home they dream of with less of the stress that comes with building and decision making.
